Core Components of a Safety Management System There are four commonly recognized components of an SMS, especially as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), but these apply well to most industries: 1. Safety Risk Management (SRM) This component focuses on identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing controls.
