Types Of Hydroponic Systems

Types of Hydroponic Systems Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) The Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) is one of the most well-known and widely used types of hydroponic systems, especially in commercial operations. Here's a breakdown of what it is, how it works, and its advantages and disadvantages: What is Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)? NFT is a hydroponic growing method where a thin film of nutrient-rich water continuously flows over the roots of plants. The roots absorb nutrients from this flowing solution while also being exposed to air, which supplies oxygen. How It Works: Plant channels or troughs (usually slightly sloped) hold the plants. A nutrient solution is pumped from a reservoir to the high end of the channel. The solution flows by gravity down the channel, past the roots. Excess solution is collected at the low end and recirculated . Advantages: Efficient use of water and nutrients (recycled continuously). Good oxygenation of plant roots. Minimal growing medium required (reduces cost and mess). Easy to monitor and adjust nutrient solution. Disadvantages: Pump failure can quickly harm plants (roots dry out fast). Not ideal for large or heavy crops (plants can become top-heavy). Requires precise slope and flow rate management. Susceptible to clogging (roots
