Microsoft Excel Introduction to spreadsheet interface Microsoft Excel is a powerful spreadsheet application used to store, organize, and analyze data. When you open Excel, you're presented with a grid-like interface made up of rows and columns—this is your worksheet. Key Parts of the Excel Interface 1. Workbook & Worksheet Workbook : A file that contains one or more worksheets . Worksheet : A single tab within the workbook. Each worksheet is a large grid of cells. 2. Ribbon Found at the top of the screen. Contains tabs like Home, Insert, Page Layout, Formulas, Data, Review, and View. Each tab holds groups of tools (e.g., font settings, charts, sorting, etc.). 3. Cells, Rows, and Columns Columns are labeled with letters (A, B, C, ...). Rows are labeled with numbers (1, 2, 3, ...). A cell is where a column and row intersect (e.g., A1, B3). You enter data (text, numbers, formulas) into cells. 4. Name Box Located above column A. Shows the cell reference of the currently selected cell (like "C5"). 5. Formula Bar Next to the Name Box.
